An example of using the active voice could be, “The Princess kissed the frog”. This is different from when using the passive voice; the same example in the passive voice would be, “The frog was kissed by the Princess”.
The verbs used in these cases are called transitive verbs. These are generally used to describe something that is happening, or, in other words, a type of action. In our example, the Princess kissed the frog, we first have the person, thing, or idea that performs the action, and then secondly we have that which is affected by that action. The first part is the subject, the Princess; the second is the object, frog.
As you can see, when you rearrange the subject and the object, the emphasis of the sentence is changed to either the active or the passive voice.
In writing, you are much more likely to see examples of the active voice, instead of the passive.
